Through the deterministic pinball machine of life, spring loaded with an omnivorous love of music and a technical agility, Matt was fortunate enough to wind up on the steps of Abbey Road Studios with something more than a camera, poncho and tube map in his hand, namely a job offer. Over the next 8 years it was at this hallowed institution where he proceeded to cut his teeth and found a learning environment of inspiration, wonder and expertise.

Rising up the ranks from deckhand to tea boy, from sailor to helmsman he navigated his way to engineering for some of the the world's biggest names in popular music including Frank Ocean (on his critically acclaimed album Blond), James Blake and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. However, it was with the explosion of the UK jazz scene that he devoted most of his professional energy, acting as an advocate for the importance of Abbey Road’s richly-acoustic live spaces to this new genre. This initiative led him to make records with many of the torchbearers of the movement including Ezra Collective, Tenderlonious, Yussef Dayes, Nubiya Garcia, Theon Cross, Binker Golding and Ruby Rushton.
Matt on jazz - “I find the blend of contrasting influences to be so enjoyable to work with. One minute you might be bringing in dancehall/dub flavours and the next spiritual psychedelic sprinklings. Merging together acoustic and electronically produced elements is a thrilling endeavour and one which has been fairly absent from a lot of contemporary experimental music production in the preceding decades. Everything seemed to be heading further and further into the digital domain or 'inner space' but now we are enjoying this current revolution which is taking things in very new and exiting directions.’
His mix credits include Nubiyan Twist’s Jungle Run, Tenderlonious & the 22arkestra’s – The Shakedown, Ezra Collective’s - Chapter 7 & Juan Pablo the Philosopher and tracks from BROCKHAMPTON’s no. 1 US Billboard Album Iridescence. In 2019 he made the decision to spread his wings and leave the Abbey Road nest for new horizons. Via an 18 month hiatus/life-retreat in India and Japan he made his way to Bristol where he is now situated and operates from his mix room.
